National Weather Service Issues Flash Flood Watch

10/28/2017 2:12:54 PM  •  Alerts  •  Message ID 1013811

National Weather Service: Flash Flood Watch will be in effect from Sunday afternoon through late Sunday night.

This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for southern Connecticut, northeast New Jersey and southeast New York.

Heavy Rain: The Weather Prediction Center (WPC) is showing the potential for a widespread 2 to 3 inch rainfall.

Isolated higher amounts of around 6 inches are possible.

Strong Winds: Southeast winds are forecast to increase to 15-30 mph with gusts of 30-45 mph. Stronger gusts up to 50 to 60 mph are possible Sunday evening into Sunday night for much of coastal CT and Suffolk County of Long Island as well as the surrounding waters. Expect small tree branches to fall along with widely scattered power outages.

Once the cold front moves east of the area Sunday night, winds are forecast to shift from the west remaining at strong speeds of 20-30 mph with gusts from 30-50 mph.

These forecast potential hazards and impacts will be caused by the combination of an approaching cold front and a rapidly intensifying low pressure system moving northeast just off the east coast.
